Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In contact with water Methyl acrylate will hydrolyse slowly.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a hydrolysis study conducted by BASF AG (1998), the half-life of methyl acrylate in water at pH 11 was determined to be approximately 1.8 h. Over the test period of 28 days methyl acrylate showed no significant hydrolysis at pH 3 and pH 7.

Therefore, the substance will hydrolyse slowly in contact with water under environmental conditions. Hydrolysis will not contribute significantly to the degradation of methyl acrylate under environmental conditions.
