In contact with water Methyl acrylate will hydrolyse slowly.
In a hydrolysis study conducted by BASF AG (1998), the half-life of
methyl acrylate in water at pH 11 was determined to be approximately 1.8
h. Over the test period of 28 days methyl acrylate showed no significant
hydrolysis at pH 3 and pH 7.
Therefore, the substance will hydrolyse slowly in contact with water
under environmental conditions. Hydrolysis will not contribute
significantly to the degradation of methyl acrylate under environmental
