toxicity to fish:
A LC50 of 37.8 mg/L in 96 hours was
determined in a test with Fathead Minnow in the presence for
benzyldimethylamine (Geiger, 1986). This value is further supported by
additional short term toxicity to fish studies.
Short-term toxicity to invertebrates:
The acute toxicity of benzyldimethylamine to
aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna) was tested according to EU method
C.2 'Acute Toxicity for Daphnia' (2008). No toxic effects against
Daphnia magna were observed during 48 hours exposure at a limit test
concentration of 100 mg/L (Currenta, 2010).

The long-term toxicity of
benzyldimethylamine on aquatic invertebrates was tested in a study
according to EU Method C.20 and OECD Guideline 211 in Daphnia magna.
Based on the results a NOEC (21d) of 0.789 mg/L was determined for
effects on reproduction and a NOEC (21d) of > 8.073 mg/L for effects on
Toxicity towards aquatic algae:
The acute toxcity of benzyldimethylamine to
Algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) was tested according to EU method C.3
'Alga Inhibition Test' (2009) yielding an ErC50(72 h) of 1.34 mg/L and
NOEC(72 h) of 0.24 mg/L (Currenta, 2010).
The effects of benzyldimethylamine to the
population growth of Pseusomonas putida was determined according to
Bringmann and Kühn (DIN 38412, part 8, 17 h). Benzyldimethylamine
revealed an EC10 of 534 mg/L and an EC50 of 749.6 mg/L (BASF, 1987).
