Description of key information

The flammability of a substance is determined following the methods N.1 (UN-manual of testing) or A.10 (EU-method).
However, in accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, a study is technically not feasible as the substance is a liquid. The flammability of a liquid is described by the flash point.
Based on experience in production or handling, Benzyldimethylamine has no pyrophoric properties (Currenta, 2010).
Based on the structural formula, Benzyldimethylamine does not emit flammable gases on contact with water (Currenta, 2010).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on a Flash point of 57°C the substance has to be classified with R10 (flammable) according to Directive 67/548/EEC and as flammable liquid cat.3 (H226: Flammable liquid and vapour.) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
