The substance (methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol) has a log Pow value that is less than 3 (log Pow = 0.97), has a low potential for adsorption or binding to organic matter (no dissociable group; estimated Koc of 33.5) and is readily biodegradable. The distribution modeling (Mackay level III fugacity modeling) indicates that when methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol is released to air, water and soil in equal amounts, the substance will partition to soil and water predominantly, and to air to some small degree. Methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol will not partition to sediment following release to the water compartment. In both the aquatic and soil compartments it is anticipated that methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol will biodegrade rapidly and thus persistence in the aquatic and soil compartments is not anticipated. Exposure to the sediment compartment is unlikely; therefore, testing of effects on sediment organisms can be waived for methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol.
