Description of key information

Secondary poisoning is not considered a relevant route of exposure for birds; therefore, toxicity to birds testing is waived for methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Assessing the toxicity of methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol to birds is not necessary since a large mammalian data set is available. This data set documents the effects of the substance on terrestrial vertebrates. In addition, methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol is readily biodegradable and has a very low potential for bioaccumulation (log Pow = 0.97); therefore, secondary poisoning is not considered a relevant route of exposure for birds. If necessary, the available mammalian data can be used in place of bird toxicity studies to develop a PNECoral for secondary poisoning. Thus, toxicity to birds is waived for methacrylic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol.
