Inspectors begin controls of classification and labelling of mixtures
The inspections in EU and EEA Member States will check whether the classification and labelling of a mixture corresponds to the information presented in the safety data sheet for the mixture. The controls began in January 2018 under the enforcement project REACH-EN-FORCE-6 (REF-6).
This year’s first issue of the ECHA Newsletter is now available. It gives Bjorn Hansen’s first thoughts on his role as Executive Director, highlights our new substitution strategy, tells about the Enforcement Forum’s new report on the status of restrictions and how chemicals can cause IQ loss and autism in unborn children.
Tip of the week: avoid unnecessary testing on animals
Under REACH, testing on vertebrate animals can only be used as a last resort to fulfil information requirements for registration. There are multiple ways for you to avoid testing on animals when preparing your REACH 2018 dossier. Have a look at the advice on our website.
Update to REACH 2018 statistics – almost 16 000 registrations submitted
The statistics about the registrations concerning substances manufactured or imported from 1 to 100 tonnes per year have been updated. 15 817 registrations have been submitted for 6 764 substances. The most registrations have been filed from Germany, the United Kingdom and France.
The tutorial shows you how to create the lead registrant dossier for a joint submission in the IUCLID Cloud and how to submit it to ECHA through REACH-IT.
Call for evidence: restriction of three lead chromates in articles
ECHA has assessed the need for an Annex XV restriction dossier concerning lead chromate (EC: 231-846-0, CAS: 7758-97-6), lead sulfochromate yellow (C.I. Pigment Yellow 34) (EC: 215-693-7, CAS: 1344-37-2) and lead chromate molybdate sulphate red (C.I. Pigment Red 104) (EC: 235-759-9, CAS: 12656-85-8) in articles.
Interested parties are invited to submit any information they have related to these lead chromates in articles (EU-produced or imported), to help with the preparation of the dossier and to understand if any essential uses may need to be derogated.
This call for evidence is open until 9 April 2018, 23:59 EET (Helsinki time).

How do companies use safety data sheet information?
The Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL) has launched a survey on hazardous chemicals for Italian companies working in the rubber, textiles, leather, paper and wood sectors. The aim is to better understand how companies use the information provided in safety data sheets to ensure they handle hazardous chemicals safely, and identify potential areas for improvement in the information communicated.
The survey, developed in collaboration with ECHA, was launched on 19 February 2018 and will run until the end of March 2018.
