Description of key information

No ready biodegradation was identified in a modified Sturm test.

In aerobic surface water as well as in water-sediment systems a fast hydrolysis and reaction to mainly THPI and THPAM was observed. Pathways for mineralisation of Captan were proposed based on these results.

In soil analogous reactions were observed. Captan degrades with a half life-time of 0.91 d mainly to THPI.

Nevertheless it has to be emphasized that several other studies exist on distribution and elimination of Captan in environmental systems for use of Captan as active ingredient in plant protection products (EFSA (July 2020)).

The results of the studies indicate that neither Captan nor its degradation products are persistent.
