Description of key information

Captan is a white powder melting at 173 °C. The powder has a very low vapour pressure with 0.000201 Pa. The octanol/water coefficient was found to be Kow 372 (25°C) (log pow 2.57). Captan is slightly soluble in water with 3.77 mg/L but is decomposing with a half-life time of 4.9 hours (pH 7). Captan is stable in different organic solvents (acetone, acetonitril, toluene) stored at ambient temperature for three months. Particle size is determined to a L50D(v,0.5) value of 12.6 µm.

No physical hazards were identified for captan leading to classification according to EU regulation 1272/2008 (e.g. flammability, explosiveness, oxidising properties etc.).
