Additional information

In two studies the cancer potential of 1 -chloro-2 -nitrobenzene was investigated in rats and mice (Weisburger et al., 1978 and Matsumoto et al., 2006).

Multiple tumours at the low dose were observed in rats (no dose-response) and liver tumours in mice (Weisburger et al., 1978). A pituitary adenoma along with either a stomach papilloma, adrenal tumour, thyroid adenocarcinoma, lymphosarcoma, choliangosarcoma of the liver or subcutaneous fibroma was observed (incidences: low dose level:7/22, high dose level:1/19, simultaneous control: 1/22, pooled control: 14/111).

In the second study hepatic tumours in rats and mice were reported (Matsumoto et al., 2006).

There is evidence that 1 -chloro-2 -nitrobenzene has a carcinogenic potential.
