Skin irritation / corrosion
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- skin irritation: in vivo
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 1976
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: see 'Remark'
- Remarks:
- Comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions. Considering both, the application site (inside of the rabbit ear as a thin and sensitve skin area) and the prolonged exposure duration (24 h) the reported absence of skin reactions appears sufficient for assessment.

- Executive summary:
Groening (Bayer AG), 1976
The skin irritation potential of 1 -chloro-2 -nitrobenzene was investigated in albino rabbits. A 2 x 2 cm area of the animal ear inside was used to applicate the test substance. Cellulose pads were loaded with 500 mg 1 -chloro-2 -nitrobenzene. The test areas were covered semi-occlusively with a layer of cellulose and plaster. The exposure duration was 24 hours.
No irritating effects were observed throughout the test and after 7 days of observation.
