Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Anthropogenic soil exposure can be considered negligible. There will only be some soil contamination due to atmospheric deposition of CS2 on the soil in the immediate vicinity of industry. CS2 has no affinity for soil and its evaporation half life in soil is short. In addition CS2 has a log Kow value of 2.7 and is readily degradable (either biotically or abiotically). Measured concentrations of CS2 in soil are therefore scarce and show low concentrations. The highest reported value was < 1 µg/kg soil. If this value is compared with the PNEC for aquatic organisms (10 µg/L, see section 5.1)  the PEC/PNEC ration < 0.1. Therefore further testing with soil organims is not a requirement (See the guidance documents).
