Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on its physicochemical properties, the bio concentration potential of CS2 is expected to be low. This was confirmed by literature values that range between 6 and 60.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The bioconcentration potential of CS2is limited. CS2has a log Kow value < 3 (it was measured to be 2.7), and it is a non-ionisable substance. In addition, most organisms can rapidly metabolise CS2. The expected low bioconcentration potential is in line with the observed and estimated bioconcentration factors. Estimated BCF, based on Kow or on the solubility are in the order of magnitude of 5. In one experimental study on the BC of CS2, the reported values for carp, at an exposure level of 50 µg/L, was reported to be < 6.1. However, at an exposure level of 5 µg/L the BCF was reported to be < 60.
