Justification for type of information:
No experimental study on toxicity to sediment dwelling organisms is available. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex X performing of a study is not necessary. According to Guidance Document R.7b (v4.0; 2017; R.7.8.7) as trigger values for a sediment assessment a logKow >= 3 or logKoc >=3 are proposed. o-Cresol has a logKow of 1.95 which is well below. The experimental Koc values of 21.9 show that o-cresol has a low adsorption potential to soil or sediment. Furthermore, the substance is ready biodegradable and neither toxic to aquatic organisms nor ionic. Hence the substance falls into soil hazard category 1, according to ECHA Guidance Document R.7c, v3.0, 2017; Table R.7.11—2. A valid PNEC sediment can be calculated using EPM, and testing on toxicity towards sediment organisms is not necessary.
