Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

Suberg H (1982)

An acute eye irritation/corrosion study was conducted according OECD Guideline 405 with deviations (Analytical purity not reported. No GLP).

3 New Zealand White rabbits were exposed to 100 mg 1,2,3 -trichlorobenzene for 24 hours. Observation time points were 1h, 24h, 48, 72h and 7 days after removal of the patch.

The following effects were observed:

1)Conjunctiva: from the first hour onwards up to 48 hour reading animals shoed  conjunctival redness and edema and discharge were recorded (conjuncitva score 0.3 in 2/3 of the animals, chemosis score between 0 and 0.7)
2)Cornea: in 2/3 animals suffered from corneal cloudiness (cornea score:0.7)
3)Iris: Iris was not affected by treatment
Within 72 hour reading all animals had recovered

On the basis of the data obtained 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene can not be classified as irritant.
