Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The in vitro toxicity of a series of environmentally relevant halobenzenes was tested using a Chinese hamster lung fibroblast cell line and its relationship with the logarithm of octanol/water partition coefficient (logP) was investigated. Colony ability forming (CFA) was performed and the DNA demage was analyses by cytofluorimetric assay.

There was a dose dependent increase in inhibition of NRU uptake from 0 % inhibition at 0.0001 mg/ml up to 92 % at 1 mg/ml. Colony-forming ability (CFA) test  was performed with V79 Chinese hamster lung cells that were treated with  0.075, 0.05, 0.025, 0.01 mg/ml for 24 hours (incubation time) and the  concentration that inhibited the CFA by 50 % was derived:  IC50 = 0.24 mM
