Validation

The linearity of the detector response with respect to concentration was assessed over the nominal concentration range of 0 to 100 mg/L. This was satisfactory with a correlation coefficient of 0.998 being obtained. Recovery of analysis of the sample procedure was assessed and proved adequate for the test. At a nominal concentration of 10.1 mg/L, a mean percentage recovery of 77.5% was obtained (range 74.2 to 81.9%). Concentrations have been corrected for recovery of analysis.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 2.51 E-2 g/L solution of test material has been determined to be 68.7 mN/m at 20.4 ± 0.5°C. The test material is considered not to be a surface-active material.
Executive summary:

Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions. The surface tension of a 2.51E-2 g/L solution of test material has been determined to be 68.7 mN/m at 20.4 ± 0.5°C, using a ringthod based on ISO 304, Method 115 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995. The test material is considered not to be a surface-active material.

Description of key information

The surface tension of a 0.0251 g/L solution of DVB-HP has been determined to be 68.7 mN/m at 20°C. The test material is considered not to be a surface-active material. As no surface-activity has been observed with DVB-HP, no such activity is expected with the other grades of the reaction mass of divinylbenzene and ethylstyrene.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
68.7
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
0.025
