A GLP guideline Buehler sensitisation study was performed on guinea pigs using 2 -butoxyethyl acetate as the test substance. Induction was carried out using three 6 hour exposures over a period of two weeks, with a single challenge carried out after a further two weeks. No irritation was noted after the induction exposures and no sensitisation reaction was noted after the challenge exposure at either of the two observation times.

The family of glycol ether products of ,which 2 -butoxyethyl acetate is a member, is not noted for showing any indication or structural alerts for respiratory sensitisation. This family of products is in wide dispersive use and none has ever been associated with cases of respiratory sensitisation. Experimental data shows that the substance is not a dermal sensitiser. It can be concluded with some confidence therefore that 2 -butoxyethyl acetate is unlikely to show respiratory sensitising properties.
Considering SAR in the glycol ether family, , it can be considered that this toxicological property cannot be expected and is not relevant for risk assessment.

Experimental and other available evidence shows that 2 -butoxyethyl acetate does not exhibit sensitising properties. No classification is therefore required.
