Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justifications and discussions

Category definition:
Discrete chemicals sharing the same metabolic pathway
Category rationale:
There are two chemicals in this category. The acetate ester is synthesised by the reaction of the parent glycol ether and acetic acid . This esterification reaction can be reversed under in vivo conditions with the acetate ester producing again the parent glycol ether. The evidence suggests that this reaction is very rapid and can take place within minutes. This means that the mammalian systemic toxicity of the acetate ester will in fact be the same as the parent glycol ethers so toxicity data for the parent glycol ether equally applies to the acetate ester, at least for systemic effects. The exception may be local effects due to the parent compound prior to hydrolysis, eg skin, eye and respiratory irritation (URT in particular). Read across does not apply under environmental conditions where hydrolysis is normally slow and does not apply to physicochemical properties.
