Description of key information

BCF values ranging from 12 to 140 were determined in a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 305 C at 25°C. The calculation of BCF yielded a value of 95.41. These results indicate a low potential for accumulation of alpha-methylstyrene in fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
140 dimensionless

Additional information

Reliable information from a guideline study documented in sufficient details and from a generally accepted calculation model are available.

In a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 305 C (Bioaccumulation: Test for the Degree of Bioconcentration in Fish), fish were exposed to test substance concentrations of 0.03 and 0.3 mg/L at 25°C for 56 d under flow through conditions. BCF values of 12 -113 (0.03 mg/L) and 15 -140 (0.3 mg/L) were determined. Furthermore, results of a calculated bioconcentration factor BCF is available. The generally accepted calculation model yielded a BCF=95.41. These results indicate a low potential for accumulation of alpha-methylstyrene in fish.
