Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Simulation testing for biodegradation in water and sediment is not required as Corfree® M1 diacids is identified as readily biodegradable (refer to IUCLID point 5.2.1 / REACH regulation data point 9.2.1.1). Therefore, a test is not required according to REACh Annex IX, column 2.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Corfree® M1 (Nitrite Free) was experimentally tested for ready biodegradability according to OECD Guideline 301B – CO2 Evolution Test (1992),or modified Sturm Test. The biological system used was secondary activated sludge. At 0, 2, 4, 7, 10, 14, 21, and 28 days the carbon dioxide was trapped in barium hydroxide and was measured by titration of the residual hydroxide for inorganic carbon. The amount of CO2produced from the test substance was expressed as a percentage of the total CO2that the test material could have theoretically produced based on carbon composition (ThCO2). The test substance was >60% degradable in 28 days, this level of degradation was not reached within 10 days after the degradation level of 10% was reached. Consequently the test substance was assessed as "not biodegradable". However, the current guidance for interpretation of OECD 301B indicates that the 10 day window should not be applied to tests on mixtures of homologous substances. Corfree® M1 diacids is a mixture of homologous aliphtic dicarboxilic acids and therefore the 10 day window does not apply. According to the current interpretation of the test results Corfree® M1 diacids is Readily Biodegradable.
