Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test substance melted and did not ignite over 2 minutes in a gas flame. The test substance did not burn over a length of 200 mm within 4 minutes. Therefore the full test program (main test) was not carried out and the test substance is not classified as "highly flammable", according to the guideline.

The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The substance succinic anhydride is non flammable, not flammable in contact with water and is not pyrophoric.
Executive summary:

A GLP study was conducted to determine the flammability (EC method A.10), the flammability in contact with water (EC method A.12) and the pyrophoric properties (EC method A.13) of the substance succinic anhydride and reported in 2010.

Succinic anhydride is not classified as "highly flammable" (i.e. a non flammable solid). Succinic anhydride is not classified as being flammable to contact with water and is regarded as not being pyrophoric.

Description of key information

The substance succinic anhydride is non flammable, not flammable in contact with water and is not pyrophoric.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

A GLP study was conducted to determine the flammability (EC method A.10), the flammability in contact with water (EC method A.12) and the pyrophoric properties (EC method A.13) of the substance succinic anhydride and reported in 2010.
