Description of key information

The octanol-water partioning coefficient (log Pow) of charcoal was determined using the HPLC method following OECD guideline No. 117 respectively EU-method A.8 in compliance with the principles of GLP. The determined log Pow values for the 3 charcoal samples were < 0.3 > 1.440; < 0.3; and <0.3 > 1.474 for charcoal (Probe 1: C-Fix = 73.3%), (Probe 2: C-Fix = 80.5%), and (Probe 3: C-Fix = 88.7%), respectively.

Additional information

The octanol-water partitioning coefficient (log Pow) of charcoal was determined using the HPLC method following OECD guideline No.

Due to the limited solubility of the test item in the solvent, an extract instead of a solution was used for the measurements. Therefore, the results are necessarily related to the used charcoal extracts (charcoal (Probe 1: C-Fix = 73.3%), (Probe 2: C-Fix = 80.5%), and (Probe 3: C-Fix = 88.7%)

with nominal concentrations of round 210000 to 230000 mg/L in methanol/water (75/25 % v/v) under the testing conditions (temperature = 25+1°C, pH = 5.5).

Variations in the retention times of reference items and test item are very small. Therefore a stable configuration of the HPLC-column can be assumed. No observations were made which might give doubts concerning the validity of the results obtained in this study.
