Description of key information

The relative density of charcoal was determined according to OECD guideline no. 109 and under GLP compliance. For the determination of the relative density of charcoal, three different charcoal probes were tested: Probe 1-3 (C-Fix = 73.3, 80.5 and 88.7%).
The measurement was carried out in duplicate using a 50 mL pycnometer.

Additional information

The relative density of charcoal was determined according to OECD guideline no.109 using the pycnometer method. Three charcoal probes were tested: Probe 1-3 (C-Fix = 73.3, 80.5 and 88.7%) and the measurements were carried out in duplicate for each probe. Each charcoal probe was ground and sieved for the fraction <25 µm, which was used for determination.

The following results were obtained:

Charcoal (Probe 1: C-Fix = 73.3%): 1.4127 at 20±0.2°C

Charcoal (Probe 2: C-Fix = 80.5%): 1.5000 at 20±0.2°C

Charcoal (Probe 3: C-Fix = 88.7%): 1.4554 at 20±0.2°C

Based on the relative density, the charcoal probes are expected to sink in water, but this interpretation is limited to the used fractions <25 µm.
