Description of key information

The toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria study is not needed as charcoal is highly insoluble in water (see "discussion" below).

Additional information

Short-term toxicity testing on aquatic plants is not required according to REACh Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex VII 9.1.2., column 2, as charcoal is highly insoluble in water (see IUCLID section 4.8) and unlikely to cross biological membranes due to particle size (see IUCLID section 4.15) and a log Pow of <1.4 (see IUCLID section 4.7).
