Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Substance decomposes before boiling (OECD 103). Because of high reactivity, the boiling point of isopropyl alcohol is used as a key value in CSA.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
82.3 °C

Additional information

Boiling point was determined by using Differential Scanning Calorimetry method according to the guideline OECD 103 in accordance with GLP. Boiling point could not be determined as substance decomposed before boiling. Based on the peer-reviewed literature, the boiling point of this substance varies between 102 to 104 deg. C at 13.3 hPa (Lewis 1997) and between 228-229 deg. C at 1006.7 hPa (Rubinschtein, K. 1950). These values were not considered as key values since the new GLP compliant data was conducted for this substance, and the supporting values in literature were not available at pressure conditions relevant for CSA.

However, because the rapid hydrolysis is the driving force in CSA, read-across data on the boiling point of isopropyl alcohol, 82.3 deg.C, released from the substance is used as a key value in ES&RC (peer-reviewed handbook value, O'Neil et al. 2006).
