Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Accumulation in organisms not to be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test substance is soluble in water and dissociates to morpholinium and toluene-4 -sulphonate. Since no studies on the accumulation of the test substance in organisms are available, the assessment has been performed with the substance's dissociation products.

The bioaccumulation potential of morpholine was studied in a flow-through test with Cyprinus carpio for a 6 week exposure period at 25° C according to the MITI protocol which corresponds to OECD guideline 305 C. The BCF at the lower test concentration (0.5 mg/L) was determined to be < 2.8 while the BCF at the higher test concentration (5 mg/L) was determined to be < 0.3.

The available study with toluene-4-sulphonate investigated the bioaccumulation of the radiolabeled substance in guppies under semistatic conditions. The fish were exposed in aerated spring water which was renewed each day. During the course of the 9 day exposure at an initial toluene-4-sulphonate concentration of 2.91 +/- 0.07 µg/L and a temperature of 22 -23°C, the absorbtion factor (the ratio of measured radioactivity in the fish to that in the water) remained below 1.

Thus, neither one of the dissociation products are expected to accumulate in organisms.
