Additional information

MMA is a flammable liquid which fulfils the classification criteria for H225 (Highly flammable liquid and vapour). Based on the chemical structure, MMA does not have explosive or oxidising properties, because the structural elements associated with those properties are absent.

When the normal safe handling practice for highly flammable substances is obeyed, the risk for workers or consumers arising from this property can be adequately controlled, e.g. where appropriate by the following practices:

•Electrostatic discharge may cause fire

•Ensure electrical continuity by bonding and grounding (earthing) all equipment.

•Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging or handling operations.

•Electrostatic charges may be generated during pumping.

•Restrict line velocity during pumping in order to avoid generation of electrostatic discharge.

•If positive displacement pumps are used, these must be fitted with a non-integral pressure relief valve.

•Extinguish any naked flames. Do not smoke. Remove ignition sources. Avoid sparks.

•The vapour is heavier than air, spreads along the ground and distant ignition is possible.


•Avoid Overfilling.

•Use appropriate equipment for filling IBCs and other containers. IBCs and other containers must be constructed of appropriate material.

•Handle and open container with care in a well-ventilated area.

•Use only with adequate ventilation.

•Do NOT empty into drains.
