Results

DSC:

In the temperature range of 30 °C – 220 °C, a broad endothermic effect was observed. The rise of the base line at approximately 240 °C can be attributed to the evaporation of gas, which might be caused by the decomposition of the test item.

Results of the DSC-measurements

No.  Sample weight / mg  Onset of Effect / °C  Range of effect / °C  Weight loss / mg  Atmospheric pressure / hPa
 PN8829  10.63  30.69  30 – 220 (endo)  6.49  1005.2
 PN8830  9.37  28.96  30 – 220 (endo)  5.78  1005.2

Capillary measurements:

In the capillary measurements a phase transition, but no melting, can be observed at a temperature of approximately 61 °C. At approximately 170 °C the decomposition of the test item started. No melting of the test item under atmospheric pressure could be observed up to a maximum temperature of 363 °C.

Temperature [°C](1st / 2nd set of three measurements)  Observations
61 / 63  The test item becomes glassy
179 / 170  The colour of the test item changed to grey
230 / 210  The colour of the test item changed to light brown
305 / 280  The colour of the test item changed to dark brown
350 / 355  The colour of the test item changed to black
Conclusions:
The test item strontium neodecanoate has no boiling point up to the maximum temperature of 500 °C at atmospheric pressure (1005.2 hPa) as determined by differential scanning calorimetry and the capillary method according to Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.2. and OECD Test Guideline 103 (1995). The test item shows a decomposition starting at approximately 170 °C.
