Description of key information

According to Column 2 of Annex IX of REACH (section 9.4. Effects on terrestrial organisms), in the absence of toxicity data for soil organisms, the equilibrium partitioning method may be applied to assess the hazard to soil organisms. The choice of the appropriate tests depends on the outcome of the chemical safety assessment.  Soil toxicity tests with strontium neodecanoate are not considered to be required for various reasons as outlined in the corresponding derogation statement. In sum, the low toxic potential of strontium neodecanoate as well as its dissolved ions strontium and neodecanoate to aquatic organisms and the low potential to adsorb to soil indicate a low if any toxic potential of strontium neodecanoate in soil. Therefore, it is not justified to conduct any further terrestrial toxicity study with strontium neodecanoate.
