Description of key information

Based on the results of this 90-d study, a low observedadverse- effect level in the serious category (i.e., due to the incidence of mortality) was determined to be 178 mg/kg/d. Acknowledging the limitations of this study, we estimated a no-observable-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of 7 mg/kg/d. We wish to point out that this NOAEL may be an underestimation of the true NOAEL and that other target tissues (e.g., CNS) will need to be investigated to increase confidence in the present estimated NOAEL in TNT-exposed birds

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for birds:
7 mg/kg food
