Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a preliminary study, the test item was still not frozen after twelve hours of storage in a freezer at - 20°C. Therefore, according to Annex VII of REACH (column 2 of section 7.2), no main study was performed and the freezing point or range of (-)-beta-pinene was stated as < - 20°C.
This value is confirmed by literature data on structurally related substances (estimated melting point: (-80) - (-60) °C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Key study conducted according to OECD 102 Guideline and EU Method A.1. The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP.

Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) is assigned.

The value of the freezing point is confirmed by data from secondary literature and results on structurally related substances considered in a read-acrsoss approach (bicyclic monoterpenes).
