Description of key information

The flash point was determined with a closed cup tester by the Setaflash method.
The flash point of (-)-beta-pinene is 39°C.
The substance is classified as flammable "R10: flammable liquid" according to Directive 67/548/EEC and flammable liquid category 3 (H226) according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
39 °C

Additional information

Key study conducted according to EU Method A.9 and ISO ASTM D3828 -97 Method. The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP. Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) is assigned. The flash point value is supported by data from secondary literature and by similar values obtained with other bicyclic monoterpenes, considered in a read-across approach. This result can be retained as key value for chemical safety assessment.
