Description of key information

The dynamic viscosity was determined with a rotational viscometer.
The substance can be considered as a Newtonian fluid. The dynamic viscosity of (-)-beta-pinene at a shear rate of 583 s-1 is 2.2 mPa.s at 20°C and 1.4 mPas.s at 40°C.
(-)-beta-pinene is classified for aspiration toxicity Category 1 according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) criteria (hydrocarbon with a kinematic viscosity of less than 20.5 mm2/s at 40°C): may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The substance is classified harmful (R65: may cause lung damage if swallowed) according to Directive 67/548/EEC.

Additional information

Key study conducted according to OECD 114 Guideline.

The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP. Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) is assigned.

A supproting study with a consistent result confirms the key value study.
