Endpoint:
relative density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1999
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.3 (Relative Density)
Deviations:

no
Type of method:
buoyancy method
Type:
relative density
Density:
1 033.8 kg/m³
Temp.:
20 °C

The relative density of the substance was assessed using Mohr-Westphal balance at temperatures ranging from 20 °C to 190 °C. In the following table the experimental measurements of density at different temparatures are given:

Temperature [°C]

Density [kg/m3]

The value for the density at 25 °C was calculated according to the Watson equation:

   r  =   A * (TC– T)B  + rC

    With constants for ditolylether: A = 54.94115 ; B = 0.4274744

    TC= critical temperature = 481.1 °C

    rC= critical density = 275.5 kg/m3

Conclusions:
The density of the test item was measured at 1033.8 kg/m3 at 20 °C.
Executive summary:

The density was determined using Mohr-Westphal balance which is in accordance with the EU method EC A.3 (buoyancy method). The density of the substance was measured at 1033.8 kg/m³ at 20 °C.
