Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017-04-05
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Test item: WARADUR LG
Batch No.: W00004534
Expiry date: April 11, 2018
Certificate: Certificate of analysis No. 28657 dated April 23, 2013
The test item was tested as received. No further preliminary treatment such as drying or milling was performed. The results given in this report only apply to the tested sample.
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Preliminary test

The test item could not be ignited with a flame. The test item melted. The performance of the main test was not necessary.

Final results

The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Flammable solids (EU method A.10): not highly flammable according to A.10 - no classification requirements with regard to flammable solids
Executive summary:

Flammability (solids) was tested in a reliable study performed according to EU method A.10 compliant with GLP (RL 1).

In the preliminary test the burning behaviour over a distance of 200 mm was measured. The pile did not ignite after 2 min of contact with the flame. Rather, the test item melted.

As such, according to EU method A.10 the performance of the main test was not necessary and the test item Waradur LG was determined to be not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10.

In consequence, there are no classification requirements with regard to flammable solids according to REGULATION (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) in conjunction with ECHA guidance document R.7a.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

No classification requirements with regard to flammability or self-heating properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

  • Flammable solids (EU method A.10): not highly flammable according to A.10 - no classification requirements with regard to flammable solids
  • Pyrophoric properties: Experience from the handling and use of the substance allows to exclude pyrophoric properties (according to CLP Regulation, Annex 1, Part 2, section 2.10.4.1)
  • Substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases: No testing required as screening information allows to exclude this property (according to CLP Regulation, Annex I, part 2, section 2.12.4): Experience from the handling and use of the substance allows to exclude reaction with water to emit flammable gases; the chemical structure of the substance or mixture does not contain metals or metalloids.
  • Self-heating properties: According to the Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria (ECHA-17-G-21-EN, July 2017), "Substances or mixtures with a low melting point (< 160 °C) should not be considered for classification in this class since the melting process is endothermic and the substance-air surface is drastically reduced." The melting range was determined for the substance (OECD 102; DSC) at ambient pressure (ca. 1013 hPa): 51.50 °C to ca. 85°C.
