Administrative data

Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
other information
Reliability:
3 (not reliable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Unsuitable test system (more than one substance tested in the same vessel). BCF for p-chloronitrobenzene cannot be derived with this test design; adopted according to OECD SIDS. The original source is available and has been reviewed.

Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
Method: other: 30 fish exposed to 780+/-130 ng TS/l in a flow-through system; aceton used as solvent; samples of 6 fish each analysed at 5,12,20,28 and 36 days of exposure; duplicate water samples taken every 3 or 4 days; GC analysis
GLP compliance:
not specified

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Oncorhynchus mykiss (previous name: Salmo gairdneri)

Study design

Nominal and measured concentrations:
0.78 µg/l

Results and discussion

Bioaccumulation factor
Type:
BCF
Value:
84 - 112

Any other information on results incl. tables

The BCF were determined for 5 incubation periods: 84 +/- 8 for 5 days, 112 +/- 23 for 12 days, 96 +/- 14 for 20 days, 103 +/- 16 for 28 days, and 108 +/- 15 for 36 days. The mean BCF was 101 +/- 18 with significant differences (p </= 0.05) among the sample intervalls. Since the higher chlorinated nitrobenzenes are possibly dechlorinated by metabolism in fish, a BCF for p-chloronitrobenzene cannot be derived with this test design.
