Executive summary:

In a study performed in accodance with DIN EN 1484 solubility in water measured as total organic carbon was 1.4 mg/L. This value is still in the error range of this assay. Information provided by Eurofins indicates that the measurement uncertainty (coverage factor k = 2) is at 29%. In light of this, it is concluded that Carbon Black (Printex Kappa 100) is practically insoluble in water.

Description of key information

To assess the solubility potential of carbon black (solid: nanoform, no surface treatment), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was used as a surrogate measure for solubility. Tests performed in accordance with the recommendations of DIN EN 1484 for five representative nanoforms of carbon black (with no surface treatment) showed DOC values ranging from below the limit of quantitation (1 mg/L) to 1.4 mg/L. It is concluded based on these results that not-treated nanoforms of carbon black are insoluble in water at room temperature.
