Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

In a GLP study performed according to OECD guideline 406, 2 -butoxyethanol was tested in Guinea Pigs for sensitisation potential . Concentrations tested were based on results found in preliminary studies to be non-irritating. Induction was performed with both dermal injection and subsequent occluded epicutaneous exposure using 2-butoxyethanol in saline . Challenge was made with a topical application of 10 % 2 -butoxyethanol in saline. All topical applications were made occlusively. Two challenge applications were made at one week interval. Whilst there was some evidence of slight skin irritancy, there was no evidence of sensitisation seen in treated animals both at challenge and re-challenge. A second guideline study also reported no evidence of any sensitisation reactions seen in any of the animals tested. It can be concluded that 2 -butoxyethanol does not exhibit any sensitising properties.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Two skin sensitisation studies: Both conclude non-sensitising

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

There are no alerts for this substance that would indicate any potential for respiratory sensitising potential.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
No data

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification. No evidence of skin sensitisation. No data on respiratory sensitisation but there are no structural alerts for such properties.
