Description of key information

 The water solubility in replicate test mixtures was determined to be 18.0 ± 0.5 mg/L (mean ± 2.5 % deviation, n = 2) at 25 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
18 mg/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Two studies are available which have measured water solubility of diphenyl ether. The previously reported and accepted value of 21 mg/L(cited in U.S. EPA HPV program) is not well-documented, and the associated methods are not known. Conversely, the Key Study, showing a slightly lower value of 18 mg/L, is well-documented and conducted according to highly reliable methods which are similar to OECD Guideline 105. Therefore, the new accepted/recommended value for water solubility is 18 mg/L at 25 °C.
