Additional information

Valeric acid has a low octanol water partition coefficient (log Kow = 1.5) and a high water solubility (37000 mg/L at 30 C; 25000 mg/L at 20 C). Based on these physical chemical properties, if valeric acid is released to water, the compound will remain in the water compartment. Valeric acid has low potential for adsorption to soil or sediment.

Valeric acid is readily biodegradable. Upon introduction to the environment, the compound is expected to rapidly biodegrade.

Due to the low log Kow value for valeric acid, the bioaccumulation potential for this compound is low.
