PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB

Diethylamine (CAS 109 -89 -7) is not PBT or vPvB.

In a Modified MITI test (NITE, 1992), diethylamine was rapidly biodegradable according to OECD criteria. Ready biodegradability was therefore assumed.

The substance is not B or vB as the log Kow is below the critical level of </= 4.5. In addition, in a weight of evidence approach, several QSAR models showed that diethylamine does not accumulate significantly in organisms. The estimated BCF values range from 1.55 to 11.9 L/kg based on valid data from five QSAR models.

The substance is not T as diethylamine does not hold any relevant classification. Chronic effect data are available for Daphnia and algae. As fish is less sensitive than the other trophic levels, this data gap can be regarded to be not relevant for the assessment. The available chronic data are clearly greater than the critical level of 0.01 mg/L, therefore diethylamine is assumed to be not T.
