Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of Sulfonic acids, C14-16 (even numbered)-alkane hydroxy and C14-16 (even numbered -alkene, sodium salts to sediment organsisms is low.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 or LC50 for marine water sediment:
767.47 mg/kg sediment dw

Additional information

One sediment study according to OSPAR, 1995, Protocols on Methods for the Testing of Chemicals Used in the Offshore Oil Industry, Part A: “A Sediment Bioassay Using an Amphipode Corophium” is available. The reported EC50 is 2025 mg/kg sediment dw for 37.9% substance. The EC50 for 100% substance is 767.47 mg/kg sediment dw. It can be concluded that toxic effects on sediment organisms might only be expected at high concentrations. The test substance exhibits only a low toxicity, and due to the readily biodegradability and the low adsorption potential to sediment (Koc between 0.65-1.607), it is not likely that it can be found in the aquatic environment and sediment in high concentrations.
