- 2-(2-Methylpropoxy)ethanol was determined to have a flash point of 63 °C. The registered substance does not meet the criteria of a flammable liquid (Category 1 - 3) as it is greater than the cut-off value of 60 °C specified in CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
- Executive summary:
An experiment was undertaken for 2-(2-methylpropoxy)ethanol to establish flash point temperature and potential flammability. The Pensky-Martens Closed Cup technique was followed according to ASTM D93 (Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester) without deviation. The lowest temperature at which vapour from the registered substance ignited, following the presence of a test flame, was determined to be the flash point. Temperature is recorded at the point the flash is first observed. A flash point of 63 °C was obtained for 2-(2-methylpropoxy)ethanol, which is higher than the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 threshold of 60 °C and indicates that the criteria for flammable liquids has not been met. It can be concluded that 2-(2-methylpropoxy)ethanol is not a flammable liquid.
