Description of key information

The estimated effect dose concentration (EC50) of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata for 72 hours using QSAR toolbox version 2.3 is 24.74 mg/l. But the BCF value of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one reported was not >= 2000 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Thus considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance it can be concluded that the substance 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is not toxic to aquatic algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.

Additional information

Based on the various studies available with Klimish rating 2 and 4 for the target substance CAS NO 3900-45-6 and read across substances and based on the category approach of organic functional group along with similar mechanistic approach and having structural similarities defined by QSAR toolbox. The results is summarized as follows

By applying weight of evidence approach to the studies summarized in the above table it can be observed that EC50 value is expected to be in range of12.25381 to42 mg/l in 24 hrs to 72 hrs study on the basis of growth, population and mortality effect. But the BCF value of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one reported was not >= 2000 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable.

Thus considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it is concluded that1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) ethan-1-one does not exhibit toxicity to green algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata, Chlorella vulgaris, Ankistrodesmus falcatus  and Seleriastrum Capricornutum.)
