Description of key information

The estimated lethal dose concentration (LC50) of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one for daphnia magna for 24 hours using QSAR toolbox version 2.3 is 23.43 mg/l. But the BCF value of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one reported was not >= 2000 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Thus considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance it can be concluded that the substance 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is not toxic to as aquatic invertebrate daphnia magna.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50/LC50 for freshwater invertebrates:
23.43 mg/L

Additional information

Based on the various studies available with Klimish rating 2 and 4 for target chemical CAS NO 3900-45-6 and the read across substances and based on the category approach of organic functional group along with similar mechanistic approach and having structural similarities defined by QSAR toolbox. The results is summarized as follows

By applying weight of evidence approach to the studies summarized in the above table it can be observed that LC50 value is expected to be in range of 15.76 to 82 mg/l and EC50 value was found to be44.11281 mg/l in a 48 hrs study on the basis of mortality effect. But the BCF value of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one reported was not >= 2000 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable.

Thus considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance it is concluded that the substance 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) ethan-1-one is not toxic to aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia magna, Daphnia longispina).
