Description of key information

a) `1,2-Dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline, oligomers` is classified as not readily combustible solid when tested according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (Currenta 2010).
b) Pyrophoric properties: In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.
Experience in production and handling: substance is known to be stable at room temperature.
c) Contact with water: In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.
The substance contains no metals or metalloids and therefore will not release flammable gases in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The test substance melted when approached by the ignition flame. The substance did not burn down or up. Due to the low melting point of 48°C the hazard on flammability is described under 4.11 Flash point.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the information summarized below, no classification on flammability is needed for TMQ:

- As solid, the flash point is 180°C (Currenta, 2010);

- It is not readily combustible solid (Currenta, 2010);

- No pyrophoric property, based on experience from production and handling;

- As TMQ contains no metals or metalloids, no release of flammable gases in contact with water is expected.

On the other hand, TMQ is also not flammable according to GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
