Key information on biodegradation
Ready biodegradability: not persistent (OECD 301 D, performed with
submission substance L9TM, 63% biodegradation in 60 days)
Key value for transportation and distribution
The derived log Koc (HPLC method) was > 5.67 (OECD 121, performed with
analogue substance: 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and
octyl triesters, C8C10TM, CAS no. 90218-76-1).
Key information on bioaccumulation
Bioaccumulation is expected to be low (log Kow >10, performed with the
submission substance, see section 4.7)
Environmental fate and pathways
With regard to biodegradation, one reliable study is available on
ready biodegradation of the submission substance according to OECD 301 D
(AkzoNobel, 2016, RL1). The study was performed in compliance with GLP
using river water as the inoculum. As the submission substance did not
meet the criteria for ready biodegradability, the test period was
extended and an enhanced testing performed. In the enhanced
biodegradation testing, the submission substance was degraded up to 63%
at day 60 (see section 5.2.1). Accordingly, the submission substance
will not persist in the environment.
The behaviour of submission substance concerning transportation and
distribution in the environment was deduced from an adsorption /
desorption study according to OECD 121 (LAUS, 2009, RL2, analogue
substance: 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl
triesters, C8C10TM, CAS no. 90218-76-1). The result of the test led to
an indicative log Koc (i.e., log Koc > 5.67), because the test substance
had a log Koc above the reference substances. The log Koc of the test
substance was determined as > 5.67 (analogue substance: C8C10TM). In
conclusion, the submission substance is considered of having a high
potential for adsorption to soil or sediment.
With regard to bioaccumulation, no experimental study is
available. The experimentally determined log Kow of the submission
substance of 10.8 was taken as indication that high potential for
bioaccumulation can be ruled out: a log Kow >10 is taken as an evidence
of limited bioaccumulation (in reference to Guidance on Information
Requirements and CSA, R.11). Therefore, bioaccumulation is expected to
