< -69 °C

Any other information on results incl. tables

A preliminary test was performed to check the approximate freezing temperature of 3 - mercaptopropanoic acid methyl ester (MMP). The test item was stored at -18 degrees C in a deep freezer. As the sample was not frozen after storage for 22 hours, the freezing temperature of 3 -mercaptopropanoic acid methyl ester (MMP) is below -18 degrees C.

The determination of the freezing temperature with thermocouples showed no heat effect from which freezing can be deduced. Therefore, the phase transformation was determined visually.

During the tests, 7 mL of the test item placed in a small test tube were cooled down from room temperature to about -70 degrees C using a dry ice and acetone mixture. Until -60 degrees C, the appearance of the test item was unchanged. At -64 degrees C, the test item becomes turbid. At -69 degrees C, the test item was more viscous, but still movable.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test item did not freeze under the conditions of the test. The freezing point of the test item is below -69 deg. C (204.15 K).
