Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2005
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP status not known, guideline not known, information from a published handbook, acceptable with restrictions
Qualifier:
no guideline available
Guideline:
other: Data taken from secondary source. Guideline not stated.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The use of secondary sources of data is acceptable when they are based on a critical evaluation of peer-reviewed data and a consequent selection of a reliable and representative value for the property under investigation. The International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSC) are produced by the WHOs International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS). The introduction to the ICSC states that they report “information collected, verified and peer reviewed by internationally recognized scientists”. Therefore, the values presented are acceptable as they are from a reliable secondary source of phys chem. data.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Remarks:
No data reported
Type of method:
other: Data taken from secondary source. Type of method not stated.

Conclusions:
The octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) for the test substance is 2.78
Executive summary:

The octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) for the test substance is 2.78. No information on the primary source of this data or the methods used is available. However, this information is taken from a reliable peer reviewed database and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.

Description of key information

Log Pow for DCPD is cited Log Pow as 2.78 in a peer reviewed handbook. QSAR predictions provide a value of 3.16.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
2.78
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) for the test substance is 2.78. No information on the primary source of the data or the methods used is available. However, this information is taken from a reliable peer reviewed database and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint (WHO ICSC 2005). This value is also cited by MITI (1997) which was unavailable for review but was included in the OECD SIDS. QSAR modelling (KOWWIN v1.67a in US EPA 2009) predicts a value of 3.16.

The data presented here are for the high purity form of DCPD. No information is available specifically on the partition coefficient of the commercial form of DCPD but it is not expected to be significantly different from the high purity form.
