Description of key information
DCPD would not meet the criteria for Bioaccumulative in the PBT assessment.
Additional information
A BCF of 53 was reported in Bluegill for DCPD which indicates that this substance would not meet the criteria for Bioaccumulative in the PBT assessment nor indicate potential for chronic effects in the environment in the classification and labelling assessment. This study method is equivalent to a standard guideline and, although it is accepted that there are some limitations in the study design, this study is still considered adequate for the assessment of this endpoint. OECD SIDS for DCPD identified a MITI study which showed a BCF range of 58.9 - 384 for Carp. This study was unavailable for review but considered adequate for assessment as a supporting study.
DCPD has a measured log Kow of 2.78 according to the MITI study identified in the SIDS Initial Assessment (1997). A further proprietary study, again unavailable for review, indicated a measured log Kow of 2.89. QSAR modelling predicts a log Kow of 3.16. The key study used in the partition coefficient endpoint of this REACH dossier gives a value of 2.78 (WHO ICSC 2005). Based only on the log Kow, dicyclopentadiene has a low potential for bioaccumulation and would not meet the B/vB screening criteria (Log Kow of > 4.5).
